Dominican Republic's foreign exchange market trades US$258.71 million a day in 2026, triple the 2019 level, says the Central Bank
The average daily volume of the Dominican foreign exchange market rose from US$87.92 million in 2019 to US$258.71 million in 2026, the Central Bank of the Dominican Republic (BCRD) reported on November 4, 2026.

The average daily volume of foreign exchange operations in the Dominican Republic rose from US$87.92 million in 2019 to US$258.71 million in 2026, tripling, according to a document published by the Central Bank of the Dominican Republic (Banco Central de la República Dominicana, BCRD) on November 4, 2026. The BCRD links the increase to its FX trading platform, launched in 2019.
More foreign currency coming in
In the first half of 2026, exports grew 16.63 %, tourism revenue 15.30 %, foreign direct investment 7.67 % and family remittances 6.74 %, according to the document.
A more volatile exchange rate
The standard deviation of the daily change in the exchange rate, measured over a 30-day window, went from about 0.11 % before 2025 to 0.38 % afterwards, a 3.5-fold increase. The BCRD says the change shows up in short-term volatility but not yet in the medium- or long-term trend.

Less spot intervention
Spot operations made up 93.06 % of the BCRD's foreign exchange interventions in 2019 and about 10 % in 2026; this year the bank has only bought foreign currency in the spot market. The IMF reclassified the country's de facto exchange rate regime from managed floating to free floating in 2025.
