Economía con Datos published its third report, «Remittances in the Dominican Republic: how much the diaspora sends, from where, to whom, and how much it weighs, 2010-2026». It uses remittance statistics from the Central Bank of the Dominican Republic (BCRD), by month, country, province, channel and amount, its balance of payments, and World Bank data on remittances and on the cost of sending them (Remittance Prices Worldwide).
Between 2010 and 2025 remittances multiplied by 3.2, from US$3,683.0 million to US$11,866.3 million, 8.1 % a year. They equal 9.2 % of GDP, compared with 6.8 % in 2010, and in 2025 they again exceeded tourism receipts (US$11,321.4 million), as in 2020-2023. In January-September 2026 they reached US$9,489.8 million, 6.5 % more than in the same period of 2025.
From where, to whom, and at what cost
In 2025, 81.50 % of remittances came from the United States, up from 66.45 % in 2010, while Spain fell from 12.13 % to 6.80 %.
